Lattes have always been a crowd-pleaser amongst coffee lovers and provide the perfect concoction of espresso and steamed milk, with steamed milk poured in order to create a top 1 cm white colouration at exactly 155–160 °F (68–71 °C). The Maple Caramel Latte builds on that experience with the classic maple and caramel combo, which serves to enhance both flavors.
Maple Syrup Oh the rich, hearty deep flavor of maple syrup that tastes like real sweetness more than any refined version of sugar combined. Maple syrup adds caramel and vanilla notes to your coffee and blends into espresso and milk flawlessly. In addition to that, it is a more healthful option in comparison to refined sugar as it is loaded with vitamins and antioxidants.
Caramel: Caramel, along with the maple syrup which has warm and earthy flavors, works perfectly to add a hint of sweet butteriness. A warmth that enriches your typical latte, offering you the perfect blend of homey indulgence.
These two flavors combine to make the perfect duo, transforming a normal latte into an indulgent and cozy sweet coffee drink.
Interestingly, coffee has been a worldwide beverage for hundreds of years, but the introduction of caramel, maple syrup or other flavors have usually emerged fairly recently, to satisfy innovative or hedonistic consumers. In the case of maple and caramel, both have been around for a long time in their own rights, but not until recently have they filled a cup together as coffee.
Pyramid Block Caramel has been enjoyed for thousands of years as well; One of the oldest and earliest versions, caramel was reported to have been created in 17th century France during a period when sugar was being cooked slowly to develop an ultra-rich, sweet syrup. Caramel evolved to a popular taste for sugar-based foods, such as candies and ice creams and later on coffee in time. Concurrently, in the 1990s when caramel coffee as a pairing burst open on social media, mainstream coffee chains began serving classic espresso drinks with enhanced flavored syrups.
Maple syrup, however, is a bit of an American classic if you can even really call maple syrup American.-Native Americans was the first to produce maple syrup by first harvesting sap from maple trees and then boiling it down into a sugary sweet elixir. Maple syrup is a true original, as it has been used for decades to sweeten everything from pancakes to baked goods. Though it is a trend that has only recently made its way into coffee drinks, it is definitely catching on due to the earthy sweetness it naturally lends.
They create the perfect team, to make a flavorful compliment to coffee which is bold and kicked up a notch with some added layers of sweetness and warmth.
And maple syrup is full of so many things that are good for you (and not horrible additives and chemicals like those found in refined sugars or artificial sweeteners) that it really isn’t such a bad choice if you’re just looking to partake in the sweetness. The following are some of the reasons as to why maple syrup works well in your coffee.
It has more than 24 different antioxidants, that help keep your body safe from oxidative stress and inflammation. These antioxidants fight free radicals, which are the cause of aging and diseases such as cancer, and heart disease.
To me, pure maple syrup is more that just a sweetener. It is a mineral rich in manganese which contributes to the normal formation of connective tissues and bones, protects cells against oxidative damage and supports energy metabolism as well as in zinc which helps support the immune function. Compared to refined sugars, maple syrup offers more nutrient value although it is still just as much of a sugar source.
Unlike many other sweeteners, maple syrup has a relatively low glycemic index which means that it raises blood sugar levels slower than others. That makes it a more solid choice if you are focusing on blood sugar control.
Maple syrup is natural and 100% free from synthetic ingredients or chemical additives. However, it is a much cleaner or healthier way to sweeten your coffee than the super processed ways that we use when adding flavored syrups from most cafes.
The syrup itself has layers and layers of flavor that come from many age-old techniques, and when paired with coffee and milk in the Maple Caramel Latte you taste each step a thoughtfully composed drink that is both delicious and with little bonus health (wellness) benefits.
Just as satisfying (if not more so, provided you use top notch quality) and even easier – especially knowing how simple it is to make such a latte at home. Try out this easy recipe
Ingredients:
1 shot of espresso (or ½ cup of very strong drip coffee)
1 Tbsp pure maple syrup ( use Grade A)
Caramel sauce, store-bought or homemade 1 T.
¾ cup steamed milk (cow, almond, oat)
Whipped cream (optional)
Sprinkle of cinnamon or more caramel drizzle, to taste (optional)
Make Espresso: To a cup, add one shot of espresso or a strong brewed coffee. Francis suggests: if you don’t have espresso, this could be brewed with a French press or drip coffee maker… are some of the suggestions he makes though I would like to point out that you need a strong coffee here, or at least something that is waay stronger than what you think it should be brewed.
Warm & Froth Milk: Gently warm the milk in a small saucepan until just hot but in no way boiling. Pour the milk until it fills about 2/3 of the cup, if you have a milk frother use it to help create a nice and foamy texture. If you do not own a frother, you can whisk the milk like a pro or bonus points if you use an immersion blender.
Step 2 Add Maple Syrup and Caramel: Mix the brewed espresso with the maple syrup and caramel sauce in a mugs. Mix until both are well combined and melted in coffee.
Add the Steamed Milk: gently pour the steamed milk into your mug while using a spoon to hold back the froth. Step Two: With the hot milk inside, allow it to fill and then begin gently spooning on the froth until you have a nice creamy topping.
Garnish & Serve: To make even more decadent, add whipped cream and caramel sauce drizzle to your Maple Caramel Latte before serving. Also throw in a pinch of cinnamon for some flavor.
Enjoy! Enjoy : Indulge in your Maple Caramel Latte with the creamy sweetness.
